The case

Quiz night at the village hall

Every November the village hall holds a quiz night for two streets of Kettlecombe, and the prize is a tin of shortbread nobody has ever won twice. At half past nine the quizmaster, Mr. Edwin Tolley, opened the envelope with the last question, read it to himself, and never read it aloud.

Constable Ruth Oakes has the score sheets and six facts about the killer.

How to play

Cross out. Name the killer.

  1. Read the story. Everyone at the quiz lives on one of two streets, listed house by house.
  2. Take a clue. Each clue is about the killer's street, house or name.
  3. Cross out everyone the clue rules out. Then take the next one.
  4. One name left? Check it against the answer in code on page 2.
